Implementing Stackable Micro-Credentials for Essential Industry Skills
This project focuses on implementing stackable micro-credentials aligned with national qualifications, targeting essential and transferable industry skills.
These micro-credentials will be designed to benefit various sectors of the forest and wood products industry, particularly where there is high labour turnover and shared skill sets.
Pilot Regions
- QLD – Southern / NE NSW
- TAS
- SA/VIC Greater Green Triangle
- WA
Pilot Sectors
- Forest growing & management
- Harvesting & haulage
- Sawmilling & processing
- Timber building products manufacturing
- Women / First Nations
Activities
Identify essential and transferable skills needed across different job functions and sectors, including agriculture and rural manufacturing and a focus on high-turnover jobs and underrepresented groups such as First Nations Australians and women.
Organise these skills into modular, stackable micro-credentials suitable for both new workers and those already employed.
Assess the delivery of these micro-credentials through VET and higher education, using methods that ensure high engagement.
Create nationally recognised training products for micro-credentials not already aligned with the VET and higher education frameworks, in partnership with Skills Insight JSC and the higher education sector.
Identify the additional support and training resources needed for trainers and assessors to effectively deliver these programs.
Develop and implement targeted outreach strategies to raise awareness and encourage participation.
Recruit pilot participants ensuring diverse representation from the selected regions.
Test those micro-credential programs that are ready for delivery in selected regions and sectors and refine them.
Develop a strategy to expand the micro-credential programs across various sectors and regions. Prepare a final report on the overall project for broader accessibility.
