Mapping SOP Skills to Accredited Qualifications for Industry Workers
This project develops and tests a model that compares the skills of industry workers trained on the job against Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with accredited qualifications. This includes full qualifications, micro-credentials (referred to as skill sets), and units of competency.
The model will support the following objectives:
- Skills recognition: Enable workers to have their existing skills recognised through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or assessment-only processes.
- SOPs standardisation: Find ways to standardise SOPs across the industry for common tasks and job functions across industry sectors.
- Training standards improvement: Identify improvements to training products to ensure they match standardised SOPs.
Pilot Regions
- Tasmania
- SA/VIC Greater Green Triangle
Pilot Sectors
- Forest growing & management
- Harvesting & haulage
- Sawmilling & processing
- Timber building products manufacturing
RPL, RCC, and Hybrid Pathways: Flexible and Cost-Effective Training and Assessment Methods
This project focuses on developing and testing flexible, cost-effective training and assessment methods. These methods include Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Recognition of Current Competence (RCC), ‘Assessment Only’ pathways, and hybrid training and assessment approaches.
The objective is to simplify and reduce the cost of gaining formal recognition for workers’ skills and competencies.
Pilot Regions
- NSW – Southeast
- QLD – Southern / NE NSW
- SA/VIC Greater Green Triangle
Pilot Sectors
- Forest growing & management
- Harvesting & haulage
- Pulp & paper manufacturing
- Sawmilling & processing
- Timber building products & manufacturing
Activities
Develop a detailed guide for flexible and efficient training and assessment approaches including RPL, RCC, ‘Assessment Only’ and hybrid pathways to be used by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and industry stakeholders.
Identify potential workplace trainers or workers to assist Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) in the implementation of these models.
Test these pathways in selected sectors and regions with the involvement of industry stakeholders, refining and improving the guide.
Develop a strategy to expand the successful models across various sectors and regions. Prepare a final report on the overall project for broader accessibility.
