Tasmanian forestry businesses now have access to new work health and safety training resources.
These resources are available free of charge to any Registered Training Organisation to support delivery to Tasmanian businesses.
“These easy-to-follow resources have been developed for Tasmania, by the Tasmanian industry, for operations within the Tasmanian forest practices system,” said Terry Edwards, TSDS Steering Committee Chair.
“These resources would not have been developed without the contribution by industry. I particularly want to recognise the contributions of Eva James and Gerard Bennett to the development of these resources”, said Yvette Nash, General Manager of ForestWorks.
ForestWorks, with funding support from the Tasmanian Training and Skills Development Service (TSDS), has worked with Purple Infinity and Sprout Labs to develop these materials to help businesses meet their requirements under the Safe and Skilled Program.
The Safe and Skilled Program is a joint initiative of the Australian Forest Products Association (AFPA) and the Australian Forest Contractors Association (AFCA). The program was created to ensure that forestry contractors have the necessary skills to stay safe whilst performing their job roles.
The program requires forestry contractors to undertake training in Work Health and Safety and Environmental Care, as well as specified units relating to the machinery they use.
