The Forest Industry Engineering Association (FIEA) held the Forest Industry Safety Summit Conference in Melbourne last week. Over 150 delegates attended the two day event, which examined the importance of safety, new developments in log transport safety and new technologies.

ForestWorks General Manager Diana Lloyd was one of the conference presenters and spoke about programs to manage workers’ high risk skills and demonstrate business professionalism. She discussed the FOLS Skills Verification Program and the Forestry Better Business Program. Together, these two programs provide a platform for industry to demonstrate their professionalism and safe practice standards.

“Safety is without doubt a top priority for industry. It is something that needs to be considered with each technological advance and new product development, ensuring our workers’ skills remain current. Another – maybe less talked about priority – is the recognition or promotion of businesses operating to high standards, and the professionalism of our industry in general,” said Diana.
