The Forestry Better Business web portal development is nearing completion. ForestWorks and three forestry contracting businesses in Tasmania will now actively use the portal in a robust manner to upload information and share it with their forest manager.  This advanced testing will be an opportunity to review the portal and its capabilities, ensuring it will deliver benefits to contractors and forest managers alike.

It has become evident that the benefits of the program include:

  1. Business accreditation – a mechanism to recognise forestry contracting businesses operating to high standards
  2. Streamlined communication between forestry contracting businesses and forestry managers
  3. One agreed set of standards, based of existing standards, located in one central place, for everyone to use.

We are also in discussions with forestry contracting businesses and forestry managers in the Green Triangle to assist them in developing an audit tool for the program. The tool will support businesses to meet standards under the safety pillar of the program.

The forestry better business program describes and documents standards under four key areas: safety, environment, economic and social.

ForestWorks is working with industry to document the existing industry standards which will be housed on the Forestry Better Business website.

Feedback to date has been very positive with the simplicity of the portal, the ability to access templates and examples, and the links between standards and the relevant Act or Regulation being of note.

ForestWorks has and will continue to work with industry to further develop this program to meet industry’s needs.
