The Forestry Workforce Training Program (FWTP) provides Australia’s forestry and wood products industries and its sectors with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and capabilities required for a future that supports the economic, ecological, and social benefits of forests. 

Across two years, the FWTP will focus on pilots and trials that test industry-generated strategies and opportunities for developing a future focussed workforce, including increasing and enhancing the role of First Nations people and women within the industry.

The main goal of the Forestry Workforce Training Program is to provide the industry with access to essential training while ensuring that the models and resources developed are scalable and sustainable, creating a long-lasting, industry-wide impact.

 The Program focuses on enhancing Forestry’ future productivity by piloting projects that address structural challenges in vocational education and training (VET) within the industry in a holistic, scalable, and sustainable approach, to build a skilled and sustainable workforce

The FWTP includes 22 targeted projects.  These projects play a critical role in achieving the Program’s objectives and they focus on:

  • Resource development for RPL and training, with a focus on integrating stackable micro-credentials,
  • Flexible training and assessment models and capacity development for RTOs, including strategic coordination of RTO assessors,
  • Mentoring and training programs for underrepresented groups, which include tailored micro-credentials for women, and First Nations,
  • Development of virtual tools and infrastructure to support training.
