About the FWTP Program

The Forestry Workforce Training Program (FWTP) provides Australia’s forestry and wood products industry with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and capabilities required for a future that supports the economic, ecological, and social benefits of forests. It focuses on enhancing future productivity by piloting projects that address structural challenges in vocational education and training (VET) within the industry. These projects use a holistic, scalable, and sustainable approach to build a skilled and sustainable workforce.

The FWTP includes 22 targeted projects, each playing an essential role in achieving the Program’s objectives. These projects focus on:

  • Resource development for RPL and training.
  • Integration of stackable micro-credentials in training for new entrants and mid-career workforce.
  • Flexible training and assessment models and capacity development for RTOs.
  • Mentoring and training programs for underrepresented groups, including women and First Nations.
  • The development of virtual tools and infrastructure to support training.
