The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) confirmed the structure and membership of the Industry Reference Committees (IRCs) for the forest and wood products industries late last year.

IRCs are responsible for overseeing the development of skills standards and qualifications for industry. The three new committees are as follows:

  • Forest Management and Harvesting IRC
  • Timber and Wood Processing IRC
  • Timber Building Solutions IRC

Each of the committees have participated in inaugural meetings this month which included an induction program with KPMG to cover governance considerations for IRC members, election of Chairs and Deputy Chairs and planning for the next meeting.

At the next IRC meeting, members will review and sign off the Four Year Work Plans. The work plan identifies skills gaps and emerging skills needs for future development of skill standards and qualifications. They are submitted to the AISC who draw on the information to update their National Schedule of training package development work.

Industry feedback is fundamental to ensuring these documents are accurate and current. Future newsletters will advise when consultation is open and provide links to the Skills Impact website where there will be the opportunity to provide input.
