Work on the Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Safety Compliance Project is progressing. The broad stakeholder review and feedback period occurred between 4 – 23 May.
The outcomes of both the ongoing consultation and the broad stakeholder review and feedback period have resulted in the following intended changes to the Pulp and Paper Manufacturing (PPM) Training Package:
  • 40 Units of Competency – The knowledge evidence relating to workplace health and safety has been revised to be more detailed and to specify the requirements in this area. This includes such aspects as handling hazardous substances, plant clearance, and operating in a major hazard facility.
As a result of the replacement of the boiler units (see below), the 4 PPMSTM Units of Competency will be deleted and therefore there are now 36 units in this list.
  • New Skill Sets – 10 skill sets for specialist operators have been created. These will be the first skill sets in the PPM Pulp and Paper Manufacturing Training Package.
  • Replacement of boiler units – Replacement of the boiler units with the MSM Boiler Licence units means that the 4 PPMSTM units will be deleted and the MSM units will be imported into the PPM Qualifications
The project is currently in the Validation stage. Validation means checking and confirming that the documents are logical and factually accurate. They have been re-written to accurately describe all job functions and reflect the current skills standards and practices of industry.
