The Training and Skills Development Service (TSDS) has been underway in Tasmania for almost 18 months. The Tasmanian Timber and Forest Industry have embraced this opportunity to access funding to undertake training and workforce development for its workforce.
Around 200 applications have been submitted for many and varied training courses and some quite innovative training, including drone training, aerial spraying, threatened butterflies, Diplomas and even Graduate Certificate courses. There have also been many applications for training in the workplace health and safety sphere. Providing support for these courses aligns with the Strategic Growth Plan and aims to have an industry which improves, enhances and expands its specialist skills base and achieves continual improvement in worker safety and welfare.
The industry is benefitting from the training of over 1,900 workers since the program began. Examples of training have included:
- RIIMPO321E – Conduct civil excavations wheeled front-end loader
- Dozer Chip Pile
- FWPHAR3219 – Conduct excavator operations with grabs.
