Australia’s glass and glazing sector requires specialised skills across fabrication, installation and glass processing. Emerging specialised skills are not adequately reflected in the current units of competency and qualification structures, while significant structural changes to the domestic manufacturing landscape are reshaping industry practices, supply chains and workforce requirements. This project will review the Certificate II and Certificate III in Glass and Glazing, along with associated units of competency and skill sets, to ensure training products reflect contemporary occupational requirements and support future workforce needs.

It will analyse emerging specialised skills across fabrication, installation and glass processing, identifying opportunities to modernise qualification structures and better support specialised job roles within the workforce. The project will also evaluate the ongoing suitability of the Certificate II qualification and explore training pathways that respond to advanced glazing technologies, evolving workforce requirements and structural changes within the glass and glazing sector.

We are establishing a Technical Committee to guide the project and inform the Terms of Reference and Consultation Strategy. Once finalised, these documents will be available on this project page.
Opportunities for stakeholder input
Stakeholder input will be sought throughout the duration of this project. The training products will be drafted in consultation with the Technical Committee and their networks. Opportunities to provide feedback will occur when draft materials are made available during the Broad Consultation phase from November 2026 to February 2027, and again during the Consensus Gathering phase from February to April 2027. Your feedback is encouraged at any time throughout the project, and will help ensure the training products reflect contemporary occupational practice and real workplace requirements.
